SocialWorks, Empowerment Plan, and Partners focus on addressing those in need and have successfully collaborated to provide essential resources to individuals in Detroit and Chicago.
Over two days, October 7th and 10th, SocialWorks and Empowerment Plan collaborated on a 2 part series of events designed to provide essential resources to individuals in need. On October 7th, the partnership focused on packing and distributing EMPWR coats and hygiene & wellness kits in Detroit to help kick off Empowerment Plan's "Project 10" initiative. The initiative aims to distribute 1,000 EMPWR coats across 10 major cities by the end of 2024. The second phase of the initiative took place in Chicago on October 10th, coinciding with World Homeless Day. The "Community Giveback" event, held at the Department of Family & Support Services, provided vital resources to individuals in need.
In addition to the resource distribution events, SocialWorks opened the doors to their 'SocialThreads' store. SocialThreads is a free clothing pantry designed to provide clothing to those in need in collaboration with Chicago’s Department of Family Support Services. The pantry offers a wide range of clothing items, toys, and hygiene essentials, ensuring everyone can access appropriate clothing for various occasions. We aim to empower individuals by offering them the dignity of choice in selecting clothing that fits their style and needs.
The success of these events was made possible through the generous support of community partners, including DTLR, Boost Mobile, Street Samaritans, CHI-CARE, and Raising Cane's. Their contributions were instrumental in ensuring the success of the initiative.
